A quick break from code - I’m back from my honeymoon with a list of 11 fun things that my wife and I noticed in Europe:
“Double occupancy Room” in Barcelona, Spain means bunk beds
Germans like shelf toilets… to inspect? (photo credit)
In Rome, Italy people let you know the status of their asses
The beach is made out of rocks in Nice, France
Czech + black death + sacred ground = free decorations?
In Rocamador, France the monkeys pinch you if you don’t keep the food comming
Hand gestures can help get your point across in France if you aren’t an expert in the local language (In this instance, the pool table was having some issues releasing two of the balls.)
Sometimes, it’s easier to just take a siesta instead of battling the heat
When driving your tank on the road in Germany, please abide by the posted speed limits. (Photo Credit)
Just a friendly reminder to leave that cataput at home when travelling from London, England (although, its lost some of its punch line after the new “Fly Naked” rules went in effect)

The yellow sign is a NATO (i.e. not really a German) sign showing the acceptable military load class on bridges and similar constructions. There are five classes from 40 to 120, the numbers being roughly equivalent of the total weight of the vehicle.
Today, you can find these cold war remains only in the western parts of Germany, first of all because the NATO was only in control of West Germany until 1990, and since 1990 the unification treaty between Germany the four WW2 allies prohibits using these signs in the eastern, former communist parts.

That’s not a sign for the speed limit for tanks but for the max. weight of these vehicles allowed on bridges etc.

Great Post!
Nice captions for the photos.
Got nostalgic of my visit to Nice couple of years ago. Stayed in an ocean facing room at Radisson.

That looks like a great time, minc.
Is that 40kmh for the tanks?
August 17th, 2006 at 2:05 am
haha nice post. Sitting on the beach looks pretty comfy. It looks like it was a good trip though, I’m jealous.

Nancy,
Those are real bones. The story behind the Sedlec Ossuary in Kutná Hora, Czech Republic is really interesting. It’s definitely worth seeing if your there.

I think it’s always good to know the status of the asses around you… just in case, ya know?
Was that macabre chandelier-looking thing made of real skulls/bones? What town is that located in? (I’ve never seen anything like that, and I’d love to go look up the history…)

Ha ha ha, I love these photos, this is great! Our list is up if you’d like to look… have a great day!

We chose our apartment in Zurich based on its lack of an inspection shelf toilet.
Looks like an amazing trip! (You know, despite the monkey bites and 50 degree temps)

Great post…love the double occupancy one! Cheers!
