What is Adsense Notifier?

Adsense Notifier displays your Adsense earnings on your Firefox status bar. It allows you to easily see your earnings at a glance instead of logging into the Adsense website multiple times a day.

Install Adsense Notifier

Install Adsense Notifier 0.9.8 now.

Adsense Notifier simply shows your adsense stats on the status bar and updates the stats automatically. This is wonderful for anyone with OCD ( or GAD as some have called it ) who needs to check their stats every three seconds to see if they have gotten any more clicks :-p

Version Notes

– Updated for Firefox 3.0 (new password manager)
– Removed a while loop that was causing lockups/delays for some users
– Fixed an issue where users weren’t notified that the AdSense Terms and

Now I’m no hero and people like Ben Goodger and all the others that contribute code to Firefox are a whole different level of coders – but it’s pretty awesome to be able to contribute, even in the tiny way that I have to the success of this great browser.

Thank you Mozilla.org and to all those that thought to give us little Add-On developers a nifty little T-Shirt.

More SVG Fun

I have been playing around with SVG a bit more, and here is my latest test.

When Google Finance came out, I was really impressed by the interface and graphing and wanted to try to replicate that in SVG (for eventual inclusion in Adsense Notifier.

As in my last SVG Demos I have only tested this inside of Firefox, so it may or may not work with the Adobe plug-in.

SVG Example Graphing Demo – The top blue box is draggable and expandable – although currently you have to grab it on the exact last pixel of either side to do the expansion, but this is just a test so you can’t complain

SVG is way to describe graphics in XML format. I have been playing around with it lately hoping to use it to add graphs to Adsense Notifier. But graphs, as useful as they can be, are terribly boring. So I have started to see just how far I can push SVG and what it will let me do.

In order to view the files, you will either need an SVG plug-in for IE, or versions of Firefox 1.5 and above have native support (another excuse to try the browser everyone is talking about!).

Both examples below use JavaScript and the SVG DOM to create the XML on the fly. I don’t think that either of these are what the intended use of SVG is for, but then what fun things are? Another neat thing to note, is that the text with the SVG and JavaScript is about 1/3 the size of the thumbnails.

“3d” SVG Example. – This example makes a faux 3d field of cubes and shows off using onmouseover effects and transparency.

Animated Fire Example – Recreates the Fire effect used in many BBS Demos way back when. Creates both the field of boxes, as well as the animated Fire effect on the fly.

Feel free to view the source and play around with them, even though they are only snippets I have released them under the GPL license. Let me know if you make anything fun with them!

Which Firefox Extensions Do You Use?

One of the reasons that I first moved to Firefox was because of all of the wonderful extensions that are available for it. The longer I use Firefox, the more great extensions that I find. After the jump I have included the list of the current extensions that I use.

If you haven’t installed or tried Firefox yet, give it a spin. If you use IE right now, Firefox’s tabbed browsing will change your life.

Adsense Notifier 0.8 – Displays your current Adsense earning on the status bar. (I created this extension so that I wouldn’t be controlled by my OCD habit of checking my Adsense earnings every 15 seconds. With all the time I have spent developing the notifier though, I’m not sure if I have actually saved any time.)

BugMeNot 1.3 – Bypass compulsory web registration with the context menu via bugmenot. (Eric’s Firefox extension tutorial helped me immensely when I first started Adsense Notifier)

ColorZilla 0.8.3.1 – Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other useful goodies. (The eyedropper is a must have for anyone who does web development.)

del.icio.us 0.5.11 – del.icio.us is a social bookmarks manager. It allows you to easily add sites you like to your personal collection of links.

Extension Developer 0.2.2.20050505 – A suite of tools for extension developers. (This is a must have for anyone who develops extensions for Firefox.)

Gmail Notifier 0.5.5 – A notifier for Gmail accounts.

Google Images Re-Linker 0.3 – Jumps directly to the full-size image on images.google.com.

Infocon Monitor 0.3 – Displays the current SANS ISC INFOConlevel on the status bar.

Live HTTP Headers 0.11 – View HTTP headers of a page while browsing. (Another required extension if you do any web or extension programming.)

Popup Count 0.3.1 – Counts the number of blocked popups. (Over 3000 blocked and counting!)

Tabbrowser Preferences 1.2.8.8 – Enhances control over some aspects of tabbed browsing.

INFOCon Monitor

INFOCon Monitor is a Firefox extension that will monitor the current SANS INFOCon level as well as the current headlines and put them in a nifty little icon on your Firefox statusbar.
Install INFOCon Monitor 0.3 (Size: 52kb Release Date: January 31th 2006)

From the ISC website: “The ISC provides a free analysis and warning service to thousands of Internet users and organizations, and is actively working with Internet Service Providers to fight back against the most malicious attackers.”

Hopefully this cross-platform extension will help to get the warning out just a little faster.

Version 0.3 Adds Support for the Flock developer preview.
